The SIMATIC Energy Suite is an option package for STEP 7 and WinCC (TIA Portal) which integrates new editors into the engineering HMI of the TIA Portal. These editors can be used to create and configure energy measuring points (‘acquisition objects’) and load management actuators (‘actuator objects’) in a simple manner.

Automatic program generation instead of complex programming

Following the completed configuration of all energy objects (acquisition objects and actuator objects), the S7 energy program is automatically generated by the program generator of the Energy Suite. This energy program can be downloaded to the controller (S7-1500) immediately after the compilation. The recording objects begin recording and pre-processing the energy values immediately after the start-up of the PLC.

Especially in larger configurations, the screens for energy recording and load management objects can be automatically generated through the use of the SiVArc option package, which saves time. To this end, an additional installation of SiVArc on the same station as Energy Suite is required. However, no SiVArc license is required for the exclusive generation of the Energy Suite screens.

New as of V16: PLC-based load management

In the corresponding editors of the TIA Portal, a load management system is first created and a recording object is assigned to it as an infeed signal. The individual actuator objects are then created in this load management system and their basic properties are configured. Actuators of the type load and producer can be configured. For each actuator type, a distinction can be made between a binary-switching (on/off) or an analog-switching (0-100%) behavior. After the S7 program has been successfully generated and downloaded to the PLC and WinCC Professional Runtime has been activated, the runtime parameters of the load management system and of the associated actuator objects are set – this primarily includes the output limit, the priorities, and the chronological limit values of the actuators. With these settings, if the set output limits are exceeded, the load management system will escalate the configured actuators based on their priority and availability (disconnection of loads or connection of producers). When the current power consumption once again drops below the output limit, the load management system de-escalates these actuators (also in accordance with the respective priorities).
